Popular beliefs on Hijama in Islam
According to the Islamic religion, healing can be found in 3 main things. These things are the drinking honey, the cauterization of fire, and the knife of the cupper. Prophet was cured with the help of Hijama by Abu Tayyibah. He got the treatment of cupping and paid the fees to the cupper. He said that he must be given two measures of food. He also talked with his tax collectors who decreased the taxes. Prophet said that cupping in Islam is the best treatment so far.
The best times recommended for Hijama treatment are the 17th, 19th, or 21st of the month. According to the reports, the cupping therapy in Islam done on the above dates cures all the diseases in a person. Al-Khallaal said hijama therapy must be used whenever the blood increases in the body irrespective of time.
Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim said that this ahaadeeth coincides with what the doctors say. The therapy of hijama sunnah must be done in the 2nd half of the month and the 3rd quarter of the month is better than the end or beginning.
But if hijama is done necessarily, it can be done anytime, even at the end or beginning of the month. Al-Khallal said that hijama should not be done on the full stomach. It is because a full stomach causes obstruction and severe diseases especially when the food is bad. Choosing the above dates is a precautionary measure for those who choose hijama in Islam. But in certain cases, it can be done anytime if there is a need.
What do other beliefs say about Hijama?
Many experts in Islam have said several things related to Hijama. According to Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar (RA), effective cupping is done in 2nd or 3rd hour after taking a bath.
Prophet said that Allah will bless those who do cupping on Thursdays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. Do not perform hijama on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. According to some reports, the man who chose cupping on Wednesday suffered from leprosy because he did not follow the hadeeth.
According to the doctors, the best time for Hijama is the 17th, 19th, or 21st of the month with Thursday. But there are also certain exceptions to this rule. Cupping is a medical treatment and can be done anytime if the patient needs it.
In certain cases, hijama is not restricted to certain dates or a particular time. Apart from that, it is also necessary that cupping therapy must be performed by experienced doctors. Only an experienced therapist or doctor can do cupping properly.
Therapists or doctors must use proper instruments to do cupping therapy. These instruments must be cleaned and sterilized from time to time. The therapist must also know that the blood should not reach the stomach of any patient.
